Detailed information

Product detailed description

The classic Twist Off 66 screw-top lid is a practical and proven choice for home-preserving fruit, vegetables and other favourite treats. The diameter of 6.6 cm (66 mm) is intended for preserving jars with a matching threaded neck and is one of the most commonly used sizes, especially for smaller jars. Use the lid when preparing homemade compotes, pickled cucumbers and vegetables, marmalades, jams, plum butter, sauces or other preserves. The TO 66 preserving lid is simply screwed directly onto the jar, so no preserving head is needed for closing it, unlike with the OMNIA system. A correctly fitted and tightened lid helps create the necessary vacuum during preserving and safely seal the jar contents. The practical pack contains 10 screw-top lids , which will certainly come in handy during the main preserving season.

The attractive fruit design combined with a homemade treat also makes it ideal as a beautiful personal gift for your loved ones.

Advice and tips:

Twist Off 66 lids are ideal for preserving larger portions thanks to their larger diameter. They are excellent for homemade marmalades and jams, fruit purées, vegetable purées or vegetable specialities.

Before use, always check whether the lid diameter and thread type match the jar neck. The designation 66 indicates a lid diameter of 66 mm – however, a similar diameter alone does not guarantee compatibility with every jar. Before closing, the jar neck must be clean, dry and undamaged so that the lid can seat correctly.

Before preserving, always carefully check the jar, its neck and the lid itself. The jar must be perfectly clean and free of cracks or chipped edges. The lid must not be dented, deformed or corroded, and must not have a damaged inner sealing layer. Wash the jar and lids thoroughly before filling and sterilise them according to the selected preserving method. When closing, the jar neck’s contact surface must be clean – remnants of marmalade, fat or other food may prevent proper sealing.

Tighten the Twist Off screw-top lid firmly, but not with maximum force. The lid must sit evenly on the jar neck; there is no need to force it. Excessive tightening may damage the lid or thread and paradoxically worsen proper sealing. It is important to place the lid straight and tighten it by hand so that it sits firmly.

After preserving, let the jar cool and then check whether a vacuumhas formed. With a standard Twist Off lid, its centre is usually slightly drawn inwards and should not spring back or make the characteristic “click” when pressed with a finger. If the centre of the lid moves up and down, or the lid does not hold firmly, the jar is probably not properly sealed and should not be stored for long-term storage.

And what if the jar cannot be opened after several months? 😊 There is no need to fight it with a tea towel and all your strength. A rubberised lid opener can help by improving your grip; alternatively, briefly warm only the metal lid with warm water. Releasing the vacuum will make opening considerably easier. However, we do not recommend prising the lid open with a sharp knife – you could damage the jar or lid, or injure yourself.

A quality lid is only one part of successful home preserving. The foundation is choosing the right preserving jars , selected not only by capacity but also by the type of neck and matching closure. The range includes classic preserving jars for the Twist Off and OMNIA systems in various sizes, so you can easily choose a suitable option for marmalades, compotes, cucumbers, pickled vegetables and other homemade treats.

It is also worth keeping a supply of spare preserving lids in several of the most frequently used sizes at home. Practical preserving accessories , such as preserving heads, thermometers and other aids , will make preparation easier, especially during the main summer season.

When preparing larger quantities of marmalades, plum butter, syrups or preserving brine, large pots are also useful, allowing you to process larger quantities of fruit or vegetables at once. You can supplement your finished supplies with practical food containers , which you can use to store other ingredients neatly in the kitchen or pantry.

And if, in addition to preserves, you also prepare homemade syrups, must, juices or lemonades, take a look at bottles with swing-top closures. The sturdy mechanical closure with a seal is practical for repeated opening, and the bottles also look very attractive when serving or as part of your homemade supplies.
